About the School
Jeffersonian heritage. Batten momentum.
Located at the heart of the UVa grounds, the Batten School of Leadership and Public Policy began with a generous gift from Frank Batten and the simple idea that the world needs a new kind of policy leader.
We started meeting that demand with the accelerated bachelor/MPP program in 2007. Those graduates went on to some pretty impressive careers in a remarkably short time.
Our inaugural postgraduate MPP class has to build on that momentum. With a focus on experiential learning opportunities such as internships, collaborative policy analysis projects, and the capstone requirement, our graduate students are ready to lead from anywhere.
And with dual degree programs, the choices have expanded even more as students can tailor their focus to become policy specialists in law, health, education or business.
We’re excited about the future and the impact our alums will have as they shape 21st century policy. Under the leadership of Dean Harry Harding, we’ve created programs that equip our graduates with an extensive skill set and a whole new mindset.
