<< Back to Directory Steve Hiss Director of Career Services and Alumni Engagement 434-924-2456 steven.hiss@virginia.edu Garrett Hall L002D A lifelong public servant, Steve’s interest in the Batten School not only stems from his own career in the public service, but also the former and current Batten students with whom he has worked in his position as the Commander of the Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps at the University of Virginia. Among his other achievements in this position, Steve fundraised to create an endowment for the Captain David J. Mehlhop Memorial Award and Scholarship, and he was instrumental in nominating Batten alumnus Nate Jewell for the prestigious National Air Force ROTC Cadet of the Year Award. Before joining the University of Virginia, Steve was the second-highest ranking officer of the Air Force’s largest operational B-1 bomber wing, where he was responsible for supervising more than 4000 individuals and billions of dollars worth of equipment. He also served as the Division Chief responsible for Strategic Planning at the Air Force Headquarters, where he led a team of individuals charged with developing future air, space, and cyberspace concepts and strategy.
