Deputy Chief of Staff at Goldman Sachs


Russell Horwitz is the Deputy Chief of Staff at Goldman Sachs. In this role, he works closely with executive leadership to develop and execute key strategic initiatives. He serves as secretary to the Management Committee.

Prior to his current role, Russell was cochief operating officer of the Securities Division, where he helped oversee the management of the division. Before that, he worked in the Office of the Chairman, where he helped manage the firm’s external and internal communications and branding strategy and global client engagement for the Executive Office, and was also secretary to the Management Committee. Russell joined Goldman Sachs in 2004 in the Executive Office and was named managing director in 2008 and partner in 2012.

Prior to joining the firm, Russell worked at the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) from 1998 to 2000. He served in various roles, including senior adviser to the chairman for policy. Before the SEC, Russell was special assistant to the national economic adviser and deputy director of communications research at the White House from 1995 to 1998.

Russell serves on the Board of Directors for the LaGuardia Community College Foundation and is a member of the Board of Trustees of the Children’s Aid Society.

Russell earned a BA from the University of Virginia in 1994.
